Miller, the actor who played the lead feature Michael Scofield in jail
Break came out as a gay man yesterday August 21 via an open note to the
Saint Petersburg Film Festival, rejecting an invitation to attend a
premiere there because of Russia's recently-passed anti-gay regulations.
The 41-year-old player wrote:
express gratitude you for your kind invitation. As somebody who has
relished travelling to Russia in the past and can furthermore assertion a
degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However,
as a gay man, I should down turn.
I am deeply troubled by the
present attitude toward and remedy of gay men and women by the Russian
government. The position is in no way agreeable, and I will not in good
conscience take part in a celebratory occasion hosted by a homeland
where persons like myself are being systematically rejected their
rudimentary right to reside and love in an open way.
possibly, when and if circumstances advance, I'll be free to make a distinct alternative.
